This gentleman cwpolo can be caracterized as the canary in the coal mine, I recall in September 2003 he addressed an "open letter to all haitians in the Diaspora" it was right before our 200 year anniversary as a free nation.
He was right on target then by reminding all of us that " As long as we, Haitians, embrace division as a way of life, Haiti as a Nation will be diminished" and here we are 2009 a divided people unwilling to get our heads together to save Haiti.
As he said "perhaps we never cared".

I applaud your xmas message, because the division amongst Hatians is the main reason why Haiti is in the state that it is in at the present moment.
I came to the States as a child, and have heard first hand my Aunts, and their friends bashing other haitians b/c they are from a different area than we were. I have also heard too many Haitians, complaining about the hardships of living in the US, only to turn around and say that they will never go back to Haiti.
I think that my parents generation has done a really poor job in teaching My generation about Haitian unity and Pride.
I have come into contact with many people from Africa and the unity thety have amongst themselves is something to be envied at times.
They go back and contribute to their homelands, they teach their children ( both the ones that were born in the US, or their home country), about their ancestors, and their cultures.
Some Haitians come to this country, have children, and don't allow them to learn Creole, or about our history.
They pass the shame they have for their country unto their children.

As bad as it sounds I agree with you, us Haitian we have the tendencies to bash ourselves, our country in front of our children, strangers, and outsiders just like you I witness it first hand people who feel very proud of themselves when they are making disparaging remarks about another Haitian like them, (you can see them holding their award high) thinking its an honor!
all of that is a lack of education and knowledge on what value and honor are?
and I hold our school system responsible for that.
I think we need some more positive role model like Wyclef Jean who's very proud to represent our country HAITI in the world.
Personally I think the biggest problem in Haiti right now and before are the selfishness (cold), the prejudice among us I think it is down right RACISM when certain person in Haiti who was born and their family before them were born and raise there the one who's getting the very best of everything the country can offer and they are never too embarrass to enjoy themselves in every kind of way and shape when they are in Haiti but when it comes the time for them to represent us else where, when they are in a foreign country

they pretend they are not HAITIAN and some of them act as if they were not BLACK at all. They forget how to speak CREOLE HAITIAN much faster than Pierre told the Romans that he didn't know who JESUS was!
that is a shame on them.
Anyone who was born in HAITI whether they are MULATTOS, RICH, BOURGEOSIE, MIDDLE CLASS, POOR or WHITE when you renounce HAITI you renounce yourself !
because cannot be someone if you don't know where you ARE from.
OBAMA now is the elect president of the United States of American the world can pen point where his great grand-fathers, great grand-mothers were born to where he is right now !
in today's technology you shameless people will not be able to HIDE who you ARE for too long anymore...
